Sensitivity of Low Density Parity Check Codes to Decoding Assumptions

Gallager's low density
parity check codes give excellent performance when decoded
by an iterative probabilistic decoding method known as
belief propagation.
In this paper we investigate how the performance of these codes
is affected if the assumed noise level does not match the
actual noise level.
